With the addition of milk tea flavours, the traditional Italian tiramisu is creatively modified into a milk tea version. Typically, the layers are made out of ladyfingers dipped in tea and a rich mascarpone mixture that is frequently flavoured with vanilla or other flavours.

Water: serves as an essential component for making tea.

Black tea bags: Loose leaf tea, often known as black tea bags, offers the strong, flavourful taste of authentic milk tea from Hong Kong.

Milk: Gives the milk tea a thick, creamy texture that makes it smoother and more decadent.

Sweetened Condensed Milk: Enhances the overall richness of the milk tea by adding sweetness and a caramel-like flavour.

For the Tiramisu:

Heavy Cream: Whipped to create a light and airy texture and serve as the main ingredient for the creamy mascarpone topping.

Mascarpone: The rich, creamy Italian cheese known as Mascarpone has the smooth texture and complex flavour of tiramisu.

Granulated sugar: balances the flavours and adds a hint of sweetness by sweetening the mascarpone mixture.

Vanilla Extract: This flavour enriches and balances the cream by adding a hint of vanilla.

Ladyfingers: these are delicate, sponge-like biscuits that take up the flavours of the milk tea in layers while maintaining a little crisp structure.

Shaved chocolate or cocoa powder: Used as a garnish to give the dessert’s last touch of flavour and visual appeal.

  • 2 cups of water
  • 2 black tea bags (or 2 tablespoons of loose leaf black tea)
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk

For the Tiramisu:

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • Cocoa powder or shaved chocolate (for garnish)

How to make Hong Kong milk tea tiramisu

Instructions:

1. Make the milk tea ready: soak the tea bags or loose tea in boiling water for 5–10 minutes. You can either take out the tea bags or filter the loose tea leaves.

2. Add the sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk and stir. Allow milk tea to cool down to room temperature.

3. Prepare the Mascarpone Blend: The heavy cream should be whipped until firm peaks form in a large mixing bowl.

4. Combine the mascarpone cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl and stir until well combined. Once the mascarpone mixture and whipped cream are thoroughly blended, fold them gently together.

5. Place the tiramisù together: Gently dip each ladyfinger, being careful not to break them into the chilled milk tea. Line a serving dish or separate glasses with a layer of dipped ladyfingers.

6. Cover the ladyfingers with a layer of the mascarpone mixture. Continue layering until you run out of ingredients, and then top with a layer of mascarpone.

7. Cool and serve: for the flavours to combine and the dessert to solidify or set completely, refrigerate the tiramisu for at least 4 hours or overnight. Sprinkle some cocoa powder over top or top with shaved chocolate, and serve your Hong Kong milk tea tiramisu.
